Purposeful Ventures is a UK charity that works with philanthropists and social entrepreneurs to improve young people’s education and wellbeing. Its Music & Arts portfolio supports access to music and arts education and opportunities to develop creative talent.

The funding will expand the Manchester conservatoire’s Creative Innovators Awards and Junior Fellowships through a new Early Career Development and Opportunities Programme. The value of the investment has not been disclosed.

The number of Creative Innovators Awards available annually will double, providing seed funding, mentoring and professional guidance for students developing artistic projects, organisations and businesses. Previous recipients have launched initiatives including Olympias Music Foundation, UnTold Orchestra and Kantos Chamber Choir.

A new Graduate Edition will extend support to recent RNCM alumni, helping them develop and sustain projects during the early years of their careers.

The investment will also support 13 Junior Fellowships over three years for graduates from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Fellows will receive additional bursaries alongside existing stipends, helping make opportunities in performance, teaching, creative engagement and leadership more financially accessible.

The programme addresses a practical challenge for musicians entering a profession often built around freelance and portfolio work: access to development opportunities can depend on financial resources and professional networks as well as artistic ability.

Maria Turley, Venture Partner – Music and the Arts at Purposeful Ventures, said, ‘This programme will help ensure that they have the support they need to progress into sustainable careers and contribute their ideas, perspectives, and creativity to the future of the classical music sector.’

Launching in autumn 2026, the programme will support emerging classical musicians across the North West and beyond through funding, mentoring and professional development.
