Yamaha has announced details of three new pianos, spanning the range from acoustic to digital:
- Concert Grand SX Series (acoustic)
- AvantGrand NU1X (hybrid)
- Clavinova CSP (digital)
Concert Grand SX Series
Launched at Cremona Musica’s Piano Experience, which ran from 29 September-1 October 2017 in Cremona, Italy, the Concert Grand SX Series is the first piano to incorporate Yamaha’s new Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (ARE) treatment in its piano rims. This innovative process controls temperature, humidity, and pressure to transform the molecular structure of the wood without the use of chemicals. Combined with newly designed hammers, this expands the piano’s tonal palette, giving added warmth and depth.

AvantGrand NU1X
A close non-acoustic relative to the traditional piano family, the AvantGrand NU1X’s heritage can be traced back to Yamaha’s U1 professional upright piano. The new instrument offers a range of sounds including Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand piano as well as Yamaha’s C7X grand piano and the SU7 professional upright.
The NU1X also features a real acoustic piano action, a wireless Bluetooth input – allowing the streaming of content from smart devices – and MIDI connectivity.
Clavinova CSP
Yamaha’s new Clavinova CSP series features Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand piano sounds. Combined with the CSP’s companion app, Smart Pianist, players have access to hundreds of sounds and backing bands as well as interactive scores for over 300 accredited piano exercises plus a vast range of popular scores. CSP also features Stream Lights which visually aids the learning process with lights illuminating the notes to play.
