The World Youth and Children Choral Artists’ Association (WYCCAA) has opened registration for the 2021 World Choir Festival to be held in June this year.
The event, which will be held online for the first time, allows participating choirs to enter videos of their competition pieces between now and 17 May with the festival itself being held on 12 and 13 June.
There are 13 categories in the competition, including children’s and adult choirs, male, female and mixed choirs, show choirs and ‘Folklore’.
The uploaded performances will be judged by a panel of 10 international jury members under the leadership of the Artistic Director, Professor Leon Shiu-wai Tong, who will present each entry with Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. A further, final competition will be judged for the Grand Prizes and cash awards, which will be announced on Sunday, 13 June.
Over the weekend of the festival, there will be choir concerts from Russia’s Vesna Children’s Choir, the Good Hope Children’s Choir of Hong Kong, Sweden’s Sofi Vokalensemble, Shenzhen Golden Bell Youth Choir of China, Heep Yunn School and Wah Yan College Kowloon Mixed Choir, the Beijing Deep Space Children’s Choir and the Peiyang Chorus of Tianjin University Choir, China.
48 international choral experts will attend as jurors and masterclass speakers. Delegates will also be able to download masterclasses by Susanna Saw of Malaysia, NG Cheuk-yin of Hong Kong, Soma Szabo of Hungary and Kaie Tanner of Estonia.
Registration fees for performers range from US$30 per singer, conductor or accompanist, to US$600 for a full choir, regardless of size. Individual delegates can register for US$120 for the event.
