VCM Foundation launches choral composition competition

VCM Foundation, the choral charity behind vocal super-groups VOCES8 and Apollo5, has announced its inaugural composition competition.

According to VCM CEO, Paul Smith:

‘With VOCES8 and Apollo5 we place great emphasis on supporting the creation of new choral music and bringing new compositions to the world stage. With that in mind, we are delighted to announce this inaugural VCM Foundation composition competition.’

Composers are invited to submit an original composition for SATB divisi a cappella, of not more than four minutes’ duration; the work must not have been performed before. Joining Paul Smith on the judging panel are the composers, Jonathan Dove and Roxanna Panufnik, Barnaby Smith, Artistic Director VOCES8 and Robin Tyson, Head of Artist Management, Edition Peters Group.

The winning work and those of two shortlisted entrants will be sung at a workshop led by VCM Artistic Director, Barnaby Smith, on 11 November at the Gresham Centre in London. The winning composition will be performed at the inaugural Gresham Centre Festival on 14 November and at concerts in the UK, Europe, USA and on radio broadcasts. Edition Peters will also discuss publishing opportunities.

The entry deadline is Friday 15 September 2017; the winning composition and two shortlisted entrants will be announced on Monday 16 October 2017.
