Uzo Iwobi OBE appointed Vice President of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

Equalities champion Professor Uzo Iwobi OBE has joined Sir Anthony Hopkins, Michael Sheen and Sir Bryn Terfel as a Vice President of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

The Specialist Policy Advisor on Equalities to the Welsh Government and former CEO of Race Council Cymru has been the International Chair for Diversity at RWCMD for some years where she helped develop its Strategic Equality Plan and Anti-Racism Plan.

Nigerian-born, Iwobi came to Wales eighteen years ago as a solicitor and Lecturer in Law at the Swansea Law School. Rapidly making a mark as someone who understood the issues of equality and the law, she was voted Swansea Bay Woman of the Year for Community Achievement in 2006 and awarded an OBE for her contributions to race relations and South Welsh communities in 2008.

In her new role, she will work towards implementing both the plans that she has helped to create for the college. ‘I was delighted to support the College as it took its vital and challenging steps to develop its own Strategic Equality Plan and its Anti-Racism Plan,’ she said. ‘These are important steps towards embedding an inclusive culture in all facets of the Collage’s work and it’s such a pleasure to be part of this exciting and transformational journey. I am truly honoured to serve the College in this capacity.’
