An auction will take place on 6 July 2021 offering lots such as the original score of Hans Zimmer’s Blue Planet II, a virtual coffee with Gregory Porter and the chance to sit in on a recording session with saxophonist Jess Gillam.
Other lots include vinyl test-pressings of Elton John and David Bowie recordings, a signed guitar and lyrics by the Lumineers, concert tickets and a meet-and-greet with Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, Andrea Bocelli and Benjamin Grosvenor and voice coaching from Marisha Wallace.
Decca Records created the bursary a year ago as a restricted fund of the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation bursary, aimed specifically at young classical musicians and composers overcome barriers to starting a career.
Funding of up to £1000 is available per applicant, who must be school-aged UK or Irish residents. The money is targeted at providing music lessons and instrument purchase or hire.
Recipients can re-apply after one year a maximum of three times. Over £20,000 has been given out so far.
