Sistema Scotland CEO to be appointed Children’s Commissioner in Scotland

The Scottish Parliament is set to nominate Nicola Killean for the position of Commissioner for Children and Young People in Scotland. The Commissioner’s role involves promoting and safeguarding the rights of young people across the country.

Ms Killean, who was the first employee of the music charity Sistema Scotland, where she is now Chief Executive, has been selected following an open recruitment process.

She will succeed Bruce Adamson, who has completed his six-year term of office. Ms Killean, who graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, has a strong background in creating opportunities for children and young people from disadvantaged communities.

Sistema Scotland delivers a social change programme called Big Noise in five cities in Scotland, using music and nurturing relationships to support over 3,500 children and young people.

Ms Killean was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for 2020 for her services to music, children and community cohesion.
