The Royal College of Music (RCM) has announced a new Master of Education (MEd) degree course.
Adding to the RCM’s wide range of bespoke programmes, the new postgraduate course is aimed at professional musicians engaged in educational work, seeking to prepare them for transition into leadership roles in musical education.
The Master of Education (MEd) will build on students’ professional experience to develop their vocational skills, offering a combination of modules that enables them to analyse, develop and share their own practice. Students have the opportunity to build a portfolio and conduct in-depth investigative research in any chosen area as well as benefitting from the RCM’s Creative Careers Centre, recognised internationally for its innovative approach to students’ professional development.
The Master of Education (MEd) is designed to be taken part-time, with teaching concentrated around professional work commitments. Intensive weekend and holiday sessions are supplemented with online learning. The course is available from September 2018 and the deadline for applications is 31 January 2018.
Richard Wistreich, Director of Research, said:
‘The RCM’s new Master of Education programme is another step in fulfilling our foundational mission to be a national and international centre for musical education. The programme offers musicians who have been out in the profession for several years the opportunity to move forward into leadership roles that transform the musical lives of others.’
