RCM to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019

The Royal College of Music will celebrate International Women’s Day 2019 with concerts and a celebration of the life and music of Clara Schumann.

The Royal College of Music (RCM) will mark International Women’s Day 2019 with concerts and a celebration of the life and music of Clara Schumann as part of its upcoming Spring Season.

International Women’s Day

Highlights include a concert on 8 March 2019 featuring songs by female composers, including Amy Beach and Cécile Chaminade, and the world premiere of a new work by RCM composer, Zoë Darbyshire.

Celebrated RCM alumnae, Anna Meredith, Helen Grime and Charlotte Bray, will also feature.

In addition, Dr Angela Slater brings her concert series, Illuminate at RCM, to the RCM on 16 February 2019 with an afternoon dedicated to the work of emerging and established female composers.

Celebrating Clara Schumann

RCM’s Keyboard Festival celebrates the life and music of Clara Schumann on 10 March 2019.

Entitled Clara’s Circle, the day-long festival celebrates some of the composer’s solo piano music and songs as well as music by her contemporaries which she performed in her career as a concert pianist.
