OTICONS International Film Music competition opens on 1 September

Composers from all over the world and from all walks of life are invited to participate in the 2020 edition of the Oticons Faculty film music competition

The Oticons Faculty challenges competitors with its uniquely devised assignments. Awards are not monetary but they are of a pure educational and business nature, placing them right in the centre of the film music world, networking with & learning directly from the top professionals in the field. Each year the 1st Prize-winner attends workshops, masterclasses, concerts and film music events at the Krakow Film Music Festival.

The Oticons Faculty jury members are all successful film and film music professionals, who have produced work of outstanding quality. Among them are composers Johnny Klimek (Cloud Atlas), Joe Kraemer (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), Jesper Kyd (Assassin’s Creed) and Shigeru Umebayashi (In the Mood for Love). Honorary Chancellor of the Jury is the legendary Lalo Schiffrin.

The Competition is open to all participants regardless of professional status, age, education, and/or background.

After initial registration, competitors enter Round 1 by completing three assignments:

  • Composition of a memorable Main Theme
  • Composition of an epic cue, only with strings
  • Composition of an original score of a script’s key scene from a real in-development feature film production.

Assignments must be submitted through the competition website between 1 January and 28 February 2020. Early bird registration opens on 1 September 2019.

20 finalists will be selected by the middle of March to take part in the second round.
