Moved by the increased vulnerability women and children are facing in her native Mexico during the current pandemic, conductor Alondra de la Parra has created The Impossible Orchestra.

Through technology and the generosity of her friends, she has connected and on-line orchestra of the finest classical musicians to perform her arrangement of Márquez’s Danzón No. 2. With choreography by Christopher Wheeldon working with dancer Elisa Carrillo Cabrera, video of the performance was launched on August 25 and had already raised over €275,000 in sponsorship before the launch.

A fundraising gala on August 28 raised even more with contributions from international celebrities and a website has been created so the public may donate. The soundtrack of the video will be released on Alpha Records.
