Developed in partnership with Online Music Exams, the Orange vocal performance syllabus focuses entirely on performance, offering the freedom to develop individual style and personality, rather than more traditional vocal courses.
Each exam requires a student to introduce and perform a selection of songs, with video feedback from an internationally recognised professional singer and a vocal examiner. The system is entirely online via www.onlinemusicexams.org and can therefore be taken anywhere and at any time to suit the student. Guidance for learning times is set out in the syllabus as are suggested songs suitable for each grade. The feedback and, for successful candidates, the certificate, will be received within one to five days of the exam. If the student fails, they may re-take the exam within 48 hours.
The very contemporary song list ranges from Stevie Wonder to Dua Lipa. Among the songs featured in the syllabus are Olivio Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’, Andy Grammer’s ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’, Billie Eilish’s ‘Bad Guy’, ‘Shape Of You’ by Ed Sheeran, ‘Cuz I Love You’ by Lizzo and ‘Own It’ by Stormzy. However, students can choose their own songs within the syllabus guidelines. From Grade 6 students may also perform their own compositions if they wish.
All the Orange exams are regulated qualifications and recognised by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and European Qualifications Framework (EQF) via the awarding body, The Learning Machine. They are also aimed to be more affordable than many other qualifications and Orange has its own team of vetted, DBS checked teachers with at least five years’ experience, should students wish.
‘Music education has always been close to my heart,’ said Cliff Cooper, Orange Amps CEO. ‘Orange Learn’s vocal performance syllabus and exams are about encouraging the uniqueness of each individual to shine, allowing a space for them to develop performance and communication skills and gain a qualification.’
