A new National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) qualification, developed by JPK, the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources Department of Skills Development, is being launched at a two-day music education conference in Kuala Lumpur on 5 October 2019.

The introduction of the qualification, aimed at teachers and music centres, supports a drive to improve professional standards of music teaching in Malaysia.

The new NOSS qualification will be announced at the MU21C 2019 conference, which includes keynotes and seminars given by senior representatives from JPK and ASWARA, Malaysia’s national arts college, which is hosting the event.

A team of expert speakers from UK organisations, St Mary’s Music School, Collins Music, Drums for Schools and the Music Teachers’ Board, will provide a range of workshops, presentations and masterclasses for attendees, who include representatives from three government ministries and organisations across the local music education sector as well as practising teachers and music students.
