Musical Futures opens new website supporting schools and home learning

The not-for-profit music education organisation Musical Futures has published a new website to provide music education resources for classrooms and home learning, including some free resources during the schools lockdown

The not-for-profit music education organisation Musical Futures has published a new website to provide music education resources for classrooms and home learning – including some free resources – during the schools lockdown.

In addition to its established open-access content and JustPlay playalongs, the new subscription-based Musical Futures Online platform will offer over 500 resources to help teachers deliver music to 7-16-year-old Key Stage 2-4 students. These include video classes in popular instruments and vocals, and tutorials to help students understand the principles of rhythm, chord changes and music technology.

Much of the Musical Futures Online offering is aimed at teachers without formal music training and schools without a ready supply of musical instruments. The Chair Drumming tutorials, for example, allow entire classes to actively engage in learning the basics of rhythm and drumming.

These, plus a library of playalong songs with notation and animated chord charts, covering genres from classical to rap, are produced in an informal style that is also suitable for the home environment or youth clubs.

All subscription packages are designed to be affordable, ranging from £10 a month to £200 per year, but during the Covid-19 schools lockdown, Musical Futures is offering free access to a curated selection of their playalongs and an introduction to music production using free online software. This is also accessible to students from home using a link and password.

Registration for the free Musical Futures Online School Closure Resources can be made here.
