The chaos within the UK Conservative government is hampering the music education sector’s ability to prepare for the revised National Plan for Music Education, music hubs are saying.
Although all music hubs are expected to re-apply for their contracts by April 2023, the Department for Education (DfE) has so far given no instructions as to the application process. Yet the information that has been released suggest major structural change to the national music education sector that will take many months to prepare. Some within the industry suggest there will be no clarification before Christmas.
Of particular concern is the DfE and Arts Council request for hubs to propose ways in which they can amalgamate with neighbouring counterparts, despite many of them having very different models and structures.
