Music Generation to expand Dublin City school music sessions

The organisation aims to reach schools and communities across the city and will commence a phased expansion from September 2022

As part of a new expansion programme, Music Generation Dublin City (MGDC) is launching dedicated vocal-led music sessions developed for primary and post-primary schools in the Dublin City region.

MGDC was established in 2021 by parent organisation Music Generation and to date has received enthusiastic feedback from successful pilot programmes in schools and Youthreach Centres across Finglas, Coolock, Raheny and the North Inner City.

The team is now inviting more schools to collaborate with MGDC from September 2022.

MGDC works with children and young people across early years, junior years and within post-primary settings. Its experiential programming includes music and movement, songwriting and music production, as well as an offer of vocal and instrumental clubs.

As part of Music Generation’s national network, Music Generation Dublin City (MGDC) is managed and funded locally by City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB), in partnership with Dublin County Council, and local music education partners.

Kieran McGuinness, MGDC Music Development Officer, said, ‘Our plan for Dublin City is to bring high-quality performance music education into every community across Dublin City and try to positively impact young people’s lives. Whether that’s whole classes or small groups, we have programmes we feel can do that!’
