The charitable association for music education, Music Mark, hosts its 2020 Play On conference on 20 November

The charitable association for music education, Music Mark, hosts its 2020 Play On conference on 20 November.

The annual conference will be online for the first time and the changes created by the pandemic will be a hot topic of discussions through the one-day event.

Three channels of live feed will offer a diverse programme of talks, workshops and discussions, including music’s effect on mental development in early years learning, the benefits of ensemble playing among disabled students, the role of online teaching in music and many other topics.

YolanDa Brown, the broadcaster and saxophonist, will be the host of the live Main Channel and keynote speakers will be Dr Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason, mother of the celebrated Kanneh-Mason family of orchestral musicians, and Dr Julia Jones, otherwise known as Dr Rock, author of ‘The Music Diet’ and CEO of Found in Music, which uses neuroscience to help its clients use music to improve customer experience.

The conference programme is augmented by a wide-ranging selection of music education videos on subjects including music education for people with learning disabilities, how to remain positive and creative while teaching within social distancing rules and breaking down barriers to on-line music making. These will be available on-demand from 16 November – 31 December.

Tickets can be bought on the Music Mark website.
