jazzahead! has announced the line-up for its 2019 GALAKONZERT, which takes place at Die Glocke Concert Hall in Bremen, Germany, on Friday 26 April 2019.
Featuring the Mathias Eick Quintet and Trail of Souls (led by singer, Solveig Slettahjell, and guitarist, Knut Reiersrud), GALAKONZERT showcases the music of jazzahead! partner country, Norway, and is one of five concerts taking place during the annual trade fair and festival as follows:
- Norwegian Night
- European Jazz Meeting
- German Jazz Expo
- Overseas Night
The next jazzahead! runs from Thursday 25 April to Sunday 28 April 2019 at Messe Bremen – with the accompanying festival starting earlier on Saturday 13 April 2019.
The festival will focus on other facets of Norwegian culture, such as the country’s broader literary scene, and will involve several of Bremen’s cultural institutions.
Since starting in 2006, jazzahead! has become a fixed date in the calendars of both industry people worldwide and the general public. In 2018, 3,282 exhibitors and participants were registered and more than 30,000 people visited the exhibition halls or attended events in the festival programme.
Peter Schulze, one of the Artistic Directors of jazzahead!, said:
‘Mathias Eick is one of the truly original talents of the Norwegian scene and is in his prime. He has found his own unmistakable voice as a trumpeter and composer.
‘In Trail of Souls, Solveig Slettahjell’s uniquely beguiling voice and the earthy blues of guitarist, Knut Reiersrud, combine to create a totally captivating and surprising insight into the precursors of modern American music.’
