The organisers of international expo and festival, jazzahead! 2020 (cancelled earlier this year due to Covid-19) have announced details of a new online programme aimed at participants who have registered for next year’s event.

Launching on 21 August 2020, the programme will feature ‘virtual sessions’ on industry topics in which experts discuss key issues.

The first event takes place on 28 September and asks the question: How do you successfully organise an online festival and earn money from it? The event features the organisers of Bel Jazz Festival’s livestream, which took place at the end of May 2020 and saw around 3,000 fans buying tickets.

Texts, videos and podcasts will also present people, topics and regions from the international jazz scene, including:

  • Artistic Director of jazzahead! Peter Schulze
  • pianist and interviewer Pablo Held
  • jazzahead! Škoda Award-recipient Norma Winstone

In addition, the jazzahead! 2020 team will be inviting people from the jazz scene in Germany and abroad to write short blog posts describing their view of German jazz and recommending their favourite pieces.

Furthermore, Canadian festival director Rainbow Robert will report on the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the Canadian jazz scene. Canada was the partner country of jazzahead! 2020 and has accepted a renewed invitation to be partner country in 2021.

Finally, monthly live panels on Facebook will begin on 3 September 2020. These 15-minute sessions will focus on preparations for jazzahead! 2021 as well as general topics such as the work of the Europe Jazz Network or the perspective of the live sector against the background of Covid-19.

jazzahead! 2021 runs from 29 April-2 May 2021 at Messe Bremen.
