jazzahead! ran from 25-28 April 2019 at Messe Bremen in Germany.
3,408 trade participants and 18,114 visitors, representing 64 different countries, visited the annual trade fair and jazz festival with 1,419 companies exhibiting at 121 main and joint stands.
Highlights included showcase concerts introducing nursery and primary school age pupils to jazz and improvisation and performances by Norwegian singer, Karin Krog, UK saxophonist, John Surman, the Mathias Eick Quintet and the Paal Nilssen-Love Large Unit, featuring musicians from across Scandinavia.
A meeting place for the global jazz industry, jazzahead! celebrates its 15th anniversary next year as well as its 10th festival based around the culture of a partner country.
Plans for 2020 include more clearly aligning the priorities of international promoters and programme makers and supporting an initiative by 2019 partner country, Norway, to create an international network of young professionals working in the industry.
Sybille Kornitschky, jazzahead! Project Manager, said:
‘Because of the double anniversary, we have something very special in preparation. One focus will be a further expansion and development of our role as an intermediary in fostering international business contacts.
‘Musicians and other professional from overseas come here to gain a foothold in the European market and those from Europe are also attracted to develop activity in other international markets. To coordinate these interests even better will be a guiding principle in our programme development.’
Hans Peter Schneider, Managing Director of Messe Bremen and Founder of jazzahead!, said:
‘jazzahead! is the largest gathering of the industry anywhere in the world. For people who want to make and expand their international contacts, this is the right place. And the buzz about jazzahead! keeps reaching more new places and attracting more new people.’
