GrandMixer DXT to receive Hip-Hop Innovator Award

GrandMixer DXT, the world’s first ‘Turntablist’, will receive the Hip-Hop Innovator Award at the TEC Experience on 13 April at The 2023 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. The award recognises an artist whose work has advanced the art form of hip-hop, and honours GrandMixer DXT’s contribution to making the turntable mainstream as a musical instrument.

DXT has appeared on recordings with his mentor Herbie Hancock (who coined the term ‘Turntablist’ when referring to him) including ‘Rockit,’ the song that earned Hancock a Grammy.

GrandMixer DXT was inducted into the Guitar Center Rock Walk of Fame in 2014 and contributed to the music for HBO’s Grammy Award-winning four-part documentary, ‘The Defiant Ones’. He is currently working on several Thelonious Monk projects.
