The online music production education platform Education & Bass is offering free Beginner Production and DJ courses for children from 7-16 years of age.
Education & Bass was already working on creating a new infrastructure for online music learning before the pandemic started and is the first such enterprise to offer Rockschool (RSL)-accredited qualifications. Concern about the stresses lockdown has given young people inspired the team to give focus to kids’ creative output and to inspire them to go further into the world of urban music production.
Led by Education & Bass’s founder, Andrew Ferguson (aka Nomine aka Outrage), the courses have already helped a number of young students. They can be accessed on a laptop and incorporate key transferable skills using free software packages. The young students’ accounts will also give them access of a range of the platform’s other masterclasses, tutorials and features.
Ferguson and his team created Education & Bass in response to what they saw as failings in the music education system. They wanted to address such aspects as accessibility, outdated systems, misleading online learning systems, mental health, funding cuts and connections between education and music industry experience.
The bespoke platform offers over 1800 multi-genre music technology tutorials, masterclasses and lectures by industry specialists, aimed at all levels of learning. Its exam programme includes RSL (Rockschool) Music Production Grades 1-6.
In normal times, the experienced team provides face-to-face music production and business masterclasses for schools, higher education and other events. It also has its own E&B Recordings record label to take the most promising of its graduates to the next stage of their music career.
