UK musicians and songwriters seeking financial, business and other support during the pandemic are being offered a free masterclass with Laura Marsden, Solicitor and Partner at Counterculture LLP

UK musicians and songwriters seeking financial, business and other support during the pandemic are being offered a free masterclass with Laura Marsden, Solicitor and Partner at Counterculture LLP.

Organised by Creative Wick, the social enterprise, community interest company in London’s Hackney Wick, the event is part of the not-for-profit company’s programme of masterclasses for the creative community.

The ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ masterclass will run between 12.30 and 1.30 pm GMT on Wednesday, 16 December. Marsden will be talking about the financial support that is on offer to songwriters, artists and musicians, as well as organisations that may offer other kinds of help.

Laura Marsden has specialist knowledge in working with individuals and businesses in the music industry. She is based in Counterculture’s Manchester offices and is a guest lecturer on music contracts at BIMM Manchester. She is a member of the Music Managers’ Forum and on the panel of experts for the Music Venue Trust. She was also a guitarist in the Manchester band Performance and was a Music Executive at ITV.

Counterculture LLP is a collective of legal, accounting and business experts who are also musicians, artists, historians and writers. The company is rated as a Leading Firm in the North West of England by the Legal 500 and as leaders in charities and not-for-profit companies for the last three years.

Creative Wick was founded by lawyer and social entrepreneur William Chamberlain as the Hackney Wick and Fish Island Cultural Interest Group to engage local stakeholders in creating a permanent, local creative economy. This led to the establishment of Creative Wick in 2015, a non-profit Community Interest Company, which networks creative people with the Cultural Interest Group and seeks out commercial opportunities for local artists. It also runs a number of creative education projects and aids academic research. Its workshop programme, being online, has national reach.
