Rehearsal Orchestra: Edinburgh Week

About the event

Our annual Edinburgh summer residential course is a unique and exciting venture, combining concentrated rehearsals of a wide range of repertoire during the day with the opportunity to explore Edinburgh and Festival and Fringe events during the evening.

The orchestra was founded as the Edinburgh Rehearsal Orchestra in 1957, as a way of giving players something to do during the day (“keeping out of the rain”) between festival events. Ever since, players have gathered in Edinburgh from across the UK, and further afield, to work under two experienced conductors, with a team of professional string principals.
