The Really Big Chorus Choral Summer School

Warwick University, Coventry, United Kingdom

West Midlands

Event Description

The Really Big Chorus (TRBC) invites you to set aside a week in August 2018 to join them for the fifth TRBC Choral Summer School.

The main work this time will be Handel’s extraordinary oratorio Israel in Egypt, with fantastic musical depictions of the plagues of Egypt: frogs; hailstones; flies, lice and locusts; and all manner of physical discomforts.

During the week you will be invited to participate in various choral technique workshops such as intonation, sight singing, blend and breath control.

Those taking part in The TRBC Choral Summer School in 2018 will:

•  rehearse the main choral work daily with Brian Kay;
•  perform in Birmingham Town Hall with a professional baroque orchestra and young prize-winning soloists;
•  explore other areas of choral singing and vocal technique in afternoon workshops with Chris Finch and Brian Kay;
•  enjoy comfortable accommodation and delicious meals on the attractive Warwick University campus.

There will also be a trip to the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford and other attractions will be added in due course.

The full timetable of the full week’s activities will be available in early 2018.

You need to bring your own score, as well as complete work in advance of the course that will increase the enjoyment of the Summer School for all participants.

The work will be sung in English and is published by Novello (catalogue no. NOV070126; ISBN 978-0-85360-4839). If your local music shop cannot help then the extremely knowledgeable staff at Blackwell’s Music Shop in Oxford will certainly be able to do so (+44 (0)1865 333582).

For help with your homework you might like to acquire a ChoraLine CD or MP3 file: visit their website at In the New Year we will upload Brian Kay’s chorus notes, so that you can write his comments and instructions into your score.

There is no additional charge for music for the afternoon workshops, for which a complete booklet will be supplied on registration.
