Online Jazz Piano for Kids day, Saturday 27 March, 10am & 4pm

Renowned jazz piano and improvisation teacher, Richard Michael, is now also an author with the February release of Jazz Piano for Kids, published by Hal Leonard.

Packed full of audio and video examples, and fully notated rhythm games and music examples, the book can be used for self-teaching, but is probably most relevant to teachers who want to add more jazz and improvisation to their lessons.

Richard is offering two interactive sessions to showcase ideas from the book on Saturday 27 March at 10am and 4pm.

Introduction by Richard Michael

In 2019, Hal Leonard commissioned me to write a book with video examples about my experiences in teaching jazz piano.

Teachers who want to teach jazz piano can use the book as it is and pupils can use it on their own. All the rhythm games and music examples are fully notated and come with audio/video recordings of all the examples.

Don’t be put off by the ‘Kids’ in the title! Many of my adult students are working successfully through the book.

These two practical workshops will show you just how simple jazz can be. Working through the book, teachers will be able to develop improvisation skills in both their students and themselves!

You can just watch and listen to the session, but it’s much more fun to join in and play with me, as students have found on my other on-line courses.

You will need:

• A strong internet connection
• The Zoom app
• Your instrument placed within reasonable distance from your screen
• A willingness to “get it wrong and not be bothered!”
