MEC Seminar: The Future of our Venues
A new series of webinars presented by the UK Music Education Council (MEC) begins on 2 February 2023 with a seminar entitled ‘The future of our venues’.
Exploring the changing role of performance venues in community and education, and presented in partnership with Sound Sense, the seminar runs online from 10.00-11.30am GMT.
About the event
Over the past 10 years concert venues have been working hard to demonstrate their value to society beyond the ‘hall one’ programme.
Arts Council England’s Lets Create encourages concert venues to do more to help transform communities through culture. Is this approach engaging all communities fairly and leading to a more representative and diverse audience experience? This seminar explores the relationship between programme, community, and education.
Panellists include:
– Samir Savant, CEO at St George’s Bristol
– Wendy Smith, Creative Director, Sage Gateshead
– Sound Sense, TBC
– Clare Cullen, Music Venue Trust
– Chris Proctor, Head of Programme, B:Music Symphony Hall, Birmingham
