EMS27 takes place at Peking University, Beijing, from 24 to 27 June 2027. The conference explores how electroacoustic music engages with ideas of nature through research and practices such as field recording, soundscape composition and data sonification.

Under the theme ‘The Nature of Electroacoustic Music’, EMS27 explores how composers and researchers understand nature, work with sounds from the environment and use technology to shape how we listen.

The conference brings together historical research, critical perspectives and creative practice. It considers how approaches such as field recording, soundscape composition and data sonification connect electroacoustic music with acoustic ecology and sound studies. It also invites perspectives from beyond Western traditions and asks how the field might develop as its materials, methods and technologies expand.

Keynote speakers are Marc Battier (Sorbonne University and Institut de Recherche en Musicologie), Liu Yen-Ling (Annie) (School of Arts, Peking University) and Lu Minjie (Iris) (Sichuan Conservatory of Music).
