2023 APME Conference: A New Landscape for PME: Community, Collaboration, & Critique

The Association for Popular Music Education is pleased to announce a call for participation for the 2023 APME conference, which will be held at the Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana from May 31–June 3, 2023. The 2023 APME conference will be held in-person and virtually in a hybrid setting.

Change is constant, yet the world has seen a greater upheaval the past two years in all areas of life and society than has been seen in recent history. Popular music education (PME) has been impacted in many ways to create a new landscape for educators and musicians. What communities are newly finding their voices or are working to overcome institutional and structural barriers? How do we support more communities and help all feel welcome in PME? What new ways of collaborating have emerged since the pandemic? What critiques emerge about “the way things are done” in PME versus new or reimagined ways? The APME conference offers time for community, collaboration, and critique through discussions, demonstrations, research, panels, workshops, and performances that paint a new landscape for PME.
