Event Description

This concert showcases the National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music’s latest theme of combinations, and Samyo combines inspirations from around the Indian subcontinent with new ideas inspired from around the world.

With a dazzling array of instruments and voices, the series of unconventional creations combines elements of Indian classical, folk and popular music. The orchestra harks back to its Hindustani and Carnatic roots with instruments, ideas and melodies that are brought together by new compositions written each year.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra presents the world premiere of their commissioned work by local composer Wong Chun-wai.

Hong Kong pianist Rachel Cheung, finalist and Audience Award winner at the 15th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, showcases her poetic musicianship and compelling music-making in Ravel’s Piano Concerto. The audience will also hear eminent American composer John Corigliano’s incredibly moving Symphony no. 1., the original score for the film The Red Violin, which has won him an Oscar.
