Recorder Restart for Stay-at-Home Parents
About the course
This eight-week course is aimed at stay-at-home parents who want the chance to do something for themselves whilst looking after their little ones. It is a course for adult beginners. Participants will learn the basics of descant recorder playing and reading music in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
There will be exercises to work on in between lessons, but as a stay-at-home mum herself, the course leader Colette fully understands the busyness of life, so it’s a case of do what you can, when you can!
As a parent it’s so hard to do something for ourselves, but it’s so important too, plus you’ll be learning a skill that will benefit your child – just wait until you can play them a nursery rhyme on the recorder. It is expected that there will be interruptions in the lesson so don’t worry if you have to disappear to do a nappy change, or deal with a toddler meltdown!
The recorder lesson itself will be just over half an hour, followed by ten minutes of nursery rhyme singing for the little ones, then at the end of each session there will be 15 minutes of chat about anything from music to teething. Plus there will be some nursery rhyme singing for your little ones to join in with!

Each participant will be required to have their own descant recorder and the method book: Learn Recorder through Famous Classics by Amanda Oosthuizen and Jemima Oosthuizen. Further details can be found on the Recorder Restart Resources page.
