MusicFest Aberystwyth Vocal Pedagogy summer course
July 22 @ 9:00 am - July 23 @ 6:00 pm£225
In 2022, throughout our annual summer festival, the artists-in-residence can be found coaching ensembles, leading workshops, giving masterclasses and performing in the Festival concerts. Students also have the opportunity to perform in public and enjoy free entry to all festival events. Please note that we have reduced our fees to make the courses more accessible to all; there are also generous bursaries available.
We are thrilled to be able to offer the Vocal Pedagogy course with Dr Ron Morris in person this year. There will also be some provision made for people to join the morning lectures online.
Going back to ‘pre-Covid’ times, this year’s course will once again consist of morning lectures followed by more practical sessions in the afternoons. This year we are running a ‘back to basics’ course that will focus on the core components of technique. The emphasis will be on alignment, breathing and support, phonation and articulation of vowels and consonants. The afternoon sessions will have some Accent Method (Breathing), designed to remind everyone of the basics (very hard to get across online!), some work on stretch and release and some suggested vocal exercises to help students of different age groups build a solid technical foundation for their singing.
Practical work with students in a masterclass format will also continue. Course participants may also take part in these sessions as student ‘guinea pigs’ if they would like.
This course will be of particular interest and relevance to singers (both professional and advanced students), singing teachers, conductors and all those working with the singing voice.
Dr Ron Morris has much to offer teachers at all stages of their careers. Whether you are fairly new to singing teaching or have much experience, there is always something new to learn, some new insight to gain, some unforeseen ‘light bulb moment’ to be had. His teaching style is open, inclusive and immensely clear. All that he has to offer is backed up with deep and insightful scientific knowledge.
The course will run on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 of July ahead of the main festival. The cost of the course is £225 and includes a free pass to the opening Musicfest concert with a complimentary buffet supper, provided by the Friends of Musicfest, on the Saturday.
Accommodation is available in our Musicfest summer school accommodation at an additional cost .
You can request a space on this course on the MusicFest website. Applications will be reviewed, and if accepted we will send full information on course joining and fee payment via email. We aim to respond within 7 days to your reservation request.
