MusicFest Aberystwyth Violin summer course

In 2022, throughout our annual summer festival, the artists-in-residence can be found coaching ensembles, leading workshops, giving masterclasses and performing in the Festival concerts. Students also have the opportunity to perform in public and enjoy free entry to all festival events. Please note that we have reduced our fees to make the courses more accessible to all; there are also generous bursaries available.
The MusicFest Aberystwyth Violin summer course offers an intensive week of violin study with tutor Sigyn Fosnes. The course will include daily warm-up/technique time for all, individual and small group lessons, and a daily performance class with accompanist for everyone. There will also be plenty of time for individual practice and performance opportunities in various showcase concerts.
Violinist Sigyn Fossnes is associate professor at Barratt Due Institute of Music, Norway. She teaches both young talents and students, and her students have received a great numbers of awards and prizes. She is also co-leader for Valdres sommersymfoni, the Norwegian music summer school. She was educated as a violinist from the Norwegian State Academy and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, studying with Prof. Detlef Hahn. She was former a violinist in Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, but in recent years she has performed with her Ensemble Ernst and colleague pianists. Her first solo-CD, and Quartet-CD was both nominated to the Norwegian award Spelemannprisen, and in 2005 she received from the Norwegian Composer Society the award: ‘Performer of the year’.
The tuition fee for this course is £595 excluding accommodation, which includes a pass to all concerts during Musicfest. Early bird discounts are available on all courses booked and paid for in full before 30 April.
The Friends of Musicfest award a limited number of bursaries towards tuition fees, so early application is advisable. Bursaries of £260 are available for all students in full-time education in the UK and bursaries and £180 for international students. See the fees and bursaries page for further details.
