POSTPONED: Asia Pacific Community Music Network 2020 Conference – Hong Kong

5 March - 8 March 2020 GMT
APCMN conference

***This event was originally scheduled to take place on 5 March but has been postponed because of the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. The organisers hope to announce a new date in autumn 2020.***

A four day conference and festival with presentations, workshops, performances and interactive debate.

About the event

The aim of the conference is to foster understanding and co-operation among the region’s community music educators and practitioners by strengthening our networks and sharing ideas about the different aspects and issues within the Asia Pacific region.

Contributions are invited from musicians, academics, social workers, artists, educators, therapists, music industry producers, students and anyone with an interest in changing the world.

……… and someone asked “what is community music” and we said it is about
“musicmaking with, by and for the community … think about that!”

Submissions

We invite submissions that explore ideas related to the following themes:

1. Making a difference

  • We are interested in hearing about the outcomes of the work in your community, the stories and case studies and the leadership development.

2. Mental health and wellbeing

  • What are the partnerships that give you access to resources and communities of need, what is the language you are using to unlock opportunities and how do you see the future
    in this area?

3. Diversity and ethnicity

  • Who is doing the work, where is it taking place, how different is it when led by indigenous or First Peoples, what are the challenges and surprises.

4. Music and Creativity

  • Tell us about the music, sing the songs, share the grooves, shine a light on individual stories of imagination and how you as facilitators are inspired by what you do.

Conference format

We want this to be a gathering where we share knowledge and discuss as much as possible. There will be keynote conversations around the four themes and the presentational format will be Pecha Kuchas – short presentations that focus the mind and inspire questions. There will also be workshops that ensure that those who want to make and share music have the space to do so! Choose the best way to share what you feel passionate about!

There will be some simple translation services.

For the Festival day we are looking for performers. Think about what you can bring to the party!
