The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) has announced that Emma Stenning will become its new Chief Executive, starting on 3 April 2023.
With extensive experience in leading cultural organisations, Stenning has a track record of delivering artistic quality, innovative live music programs, and developing new audiences. Her previous roles include Chief Executive of Bristol Old Vic, Head of Theatre at Arts Council England, and Cultural Programme Advisor at the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.
She joins the orchestra at an exciting time, as it prepares to launch its 2023-24 season and welcomes its new Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor Kazuki Yamada. Stenning will relocate to the Birmingham area and will initially spend two days a week before starting her full-time role from mid-July. She succeeds Stephen Maddock, who leaves the orchestra after nearly 24 years to take up the role of Principal at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
