Scottish freelance arts workers are being offered one-off payments of between £500 and £2000 for loss of work through cancellation or deferral between the end of November 2021 and March 2022.
The £8 million commitment from the Scottish Government will be split into two amounts, released between this month and a later date to allow for those who were not eligible at the time of the fund’s launch in November. The grants are not aimed at replacing the lost income but at partially offsetting the impact of cancellations.
Applicants to the Creative Cancellation Fund have to provide a CV of their work to date and written evidence of lost or postponed work. Successful applicants can expect to receive payment within 20 working days of submission. The application portal opened on 6 January 2022.
Creative Scotland acknowledges that demand will probably exceed supply, which explains the decision to split the payment periods.
