London-based college LCCM has announced details of a competition open to young musicians interested in attending one of the college’s summer courses, Music Week and Making Music, which run this month. Details of the 33rd World Conference of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) have been announced. Running from 15-20 July 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the conference will be hosted by ISME in collaboration with the Music Educators’ Society of Türkiye (MUZED) and the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY). With an invitation from ISME President, Professor Lee Higgins, and Congress Chair, Professor Dr Uğur Alpagut, the conference will reflect ‘the lifelong learning, lifespan development and life-changing nature of music in people’s lives around the world’ in its theme, Life’s Journey Through Music. Youth music development charity, NYMAZ, has announced that it is participating in Prosper, a business support programme from Creative United. Designed to improve confidence and capabilities within business in the arts, museums and galleries, Prosper is an Arts Council England-supported programme offering nine months of support activities to 70 organisations – chosen from over 250 applications – to help increase resilience and investment across the sector. The European Choral Association (ECA) has announced initial details of the 2018 Europa Cantat festival, the ECA’s flagship international event. The 2018 festival takes place in Tallinn, Estonia. Mahogany Opera Group has announced that it will refocus its activity on two areas from January 2018: MY Opera and Various Stages. MY Opera (Mahogany Youth Opera) aims to give young people ownership of opera and encompasses all Mahogany Opera Group’s work for and with children. Characterised by the way in which young people work alongside professionals, it builds on recent successes, Brundibár and Snappy Operas.
