Ayanna Witter-Johnson joins board of Awards for Young Musicians

UK charity Awards for Young Musicians has appointed acclaimed songwriter, composer, pianist and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson as a Trustee

Ayanna Witter-Johnson is a multi-talented artist with a reputation for crossing the boundaries of classical, jazz, reggae, soul and R&B. She made her Wigmore Hall debut on 5 May 2022.

A British-born Jamaican, her music is described as ‘a body of work that represents, celebrates and pays homage to her ancestral heritage, culture and identity’. In her role as Trustee, Ayanna will bring her extensive experience as an international artist to Awards for Young Musicians‘ governance.

Ayanna Witter Johnson said, ‘I’m delighted to be joining the AYM team as a Board member. My relationship with the organisation started as a donor and founder of the AYM Rose Walker Award for Woodwind, so I know first-hand that AYM bring immeasurable value to young musicians nationwide with support that makes a huge difference to early careers. Increasing and growing AYM’s impact and reach to diverse artists is important to me and I look forward to being part of AYM’s incredible future work.’

AYM Chief Executive Hester Cockcroft said, ‘AYM is a learning organisation: we want to continue to develop and improve our support for young musicians. A range of voices and insights is vital to this process: Ayanna’s knowledge and perspective from her unique and stellar musical  journey will be hugely valuable. We’re delighted that she’s joined the Board and I’m sure she will make a brilliant contribution to AYM.’
