Travel grants aim to widen access to Eric Ericson Award
Support for conductors from outside Europe forms part of the 2027 competition’s international career development offer.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Music is offering travel grants to help young choral conductors from outside Europe participate in the 2027 Eric Ericson Award.
Applications for the competition opened in May 2026 and remain open until 1 February 2027. The grants are available to eligible candidates selected for the semifinals, helping address the cost of travelling to Stockholm.
Fredrik Wetterqvist, the academy’s permanent secretary, said the funding was intended ‘to ensure that high travel costs do not hinder participation’.
Open to conductors under 36, the competition takes place on 20-23 October 2027. Eight semifinalists will work with the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and Allmänna Sången; three finalists will conduct the Swedish Radio Choir at Berwaldhallen.
The winner receives SEK100,000 and opportunities to undertake productions with eleven European Broadcasting Union media choirs, including the BBC Singers and RIAS Kammerchor Berlin.
Berwaldhallen organises the award with the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, supported by the Rosenborg Gehrmans Foundation and European Broadcasting Union.
