The appointments span brass, composition, jazz, keyboard, strings, percussion and woodwind, bringing students into direct contact with performers and educators whose experience includes international concert careers and principal positions in leading orchestras.

The visiting professors will work with students through masterclasses, individual coaching, workshops, side-by-side performances and sessions focused on the music industry.

Armstrong, whose awards include a Grammy, Golden Globe and BAFTA, joins in composition. Taylor will teach jazz guitar and business, while Florian Ross takes up a role in jazz composition.

Lloyd joins the brass department alongside Saar Berger (French horn), Ross Knight (tuba) and Helen Vollam (trombone). Pianists Daniel Petrica Ciobanu and Lukas Geniušas are appointed in keyboard.

The string appointments are Luis Cabrera (double bass), Rebecca Gilliver (cello), Ivo-Jan van der Werff (viola) and Igor Yuzefovich (violin). Andy Barclay joins in percussion, Nick Woud in timpani and Hélène Devilleneuve in oboe.

Professor Aaron Shorr, director of the School of Music, said, ‘These new Visiting Professor appointments bring an extraordinary breadth of experience and a truly world-class calibre of talent to RCS.

‘It’s an exceptional opportunity for students, who are preparing for their own careers in music, to work with artists at the very top of their profession who will share their invaluable insight and experience.’
