Ludovico Einaudi will receive a Fellowship of The Ivors Academy, its highest honour, at the Ivors Composer Awards on 17 November.

The award recognises his contribution to contemporary composition and his impact on audiences worldwide. Fellowship is awarded through recognition by fellow music creators.

Trained in the classical tradition, Einaudi draws on minimalism, folk, electronic music and improvisation. His recordings and performances have brought contemporary instrumental music to a broad international audience, while his music has featured in films including This Is England, Nomadland and The Father.

Einaudi said, ‘I grew up listening to a lot of British music, and its artists have shaped my musical world and continue to inspire me. The UK was the first country to truly embrace my music, and over the years it has become a much-loved second home. To be welcomed into the Fellowship of The Ivors Academy, among so many artists I admire, is a great honour.’

Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, said, ‘He has followed his artistic instincts throughout his career, creating an extraordinary body of work that crosses musical boundaries. Fellowship is the highest honour we bestow, and it is a privilege to recognise a composer whose music has touched so many lives.’

Hosted by broadcaster Petroc Trelawny at Grosvenor House, London, the new Ivors Composer Awards ceremony will recognise work across film, television, video games, concert music, theatre and community engagement. There are 36 nominees across nine categories, with awards judged by fellow composers.

Max Richter will also receive an Ivor Novello Award for Innovation, recognising his ingenuity and impact on contemporary classical music. The awards are sponsored by PRS for Music and presented in association with BBC Radio 3.

The ceremony forms part of the inaugural Ivors Composer Week, running from 16–20 November. Einaudi will also speak at The Ivors Composer Summit, held in association with BMI at London’s Royal Institution on 18 November.
