ABRSM is the latest music examinations board to offer online graded exams. In an announcement by Michael Elliott, ABRSM Chief Executive, the board states that exams for all instruments at grades 1 to 8, as well as the ARSM diploma, will be available online from August 2020.

Full details will be available by 21 May together with information about a new music theory offer.

A further development is that from June, UK learners currently in Year 13 (or the equivalent in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) who were due to take an ABRSM grade 6 to 8 exam attracting UCAS points, or an ARSM exam, will be able to take an adapted exam, with results will be issued in July ‘to ensure these learners can progress with their education by being assessed and awarded their qualifications’.

ABRSM is continuing to plan for the resumption of face-to-face exams in the UK and in other countries, in appropriate venues and under strict management of social distancing requirements, as soon as circumstances allow.
