The Association of British Choral Directors (abcd) has announced that its 34th Annual Convention has been expanded and developed into a new festival, the abcd Choral Leaders’ Festival.
With the involvement of the European Choral Association and an emphasis on communal involvement, the festival has more plenary sessions – including keynote addresses and opportunities for both singing and hearing singing – as well as workshop sessions, a trade exhibition and three conducting courses.
Highlights include:
- performances from choirs including the National Youth Choir of Hungary, London Youth Choir, Town Hall Gospel Choir, Singing Community of Choirs and Lutley Community Voices
- sessions with composers, David Bednall, Paul Mealor and Owain Park
- singing sessions with John Rutter and David Lawrence
- the launch of a new peer-reviewed academic research journal, published by abcd, aimed at promoting research-informed practice and a scholarly approach to choral work
The abcd Choral Leaders’ Festival runs from 22-25 August 2019 at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Early Bird rates apply until 30 June 2019. For more information, please click here.
